This year has been very busy, but satisfying creatively and professionally. This was a book I illustrated this year with Usborne , I am very happy with how it turned out. It also stirs up some grumpy emotions as well; due to a scheduling error at my old job I ended up having to do two story boards simultaneously while doing this (sigh) , but that's done now thank goodness!

For those of you in the Toronto area my friend and colleague Sam Bradley, with a group of super talented artists, have put together yet another amazing collection of stories in the Anthology Project available at TCAF. I'm totally getting my copy signed....AGAIN!

Hey folks I posted these drawing earlier today, but while fiddling with my blog settings It managed to delete the post along with all the lovely comments,
so lets try this again.... on the plus side the original post didn't have foxes :

I wanted to post before I head to Vancouver for two weeks for a little R&R
here's some initial drawings for a kids book I'm starting to work on, this isn't stuff I'd show the client the drawings are waaay too rough , and as somebody pointed out earlier Yes! the turtles are definitely inspired at least in pallet by Martin Wittig's turtle line up ,and in approach/design the turtle from Cats Don't Dance (love that movie) they'll need some tweaking, but I still enjoy the drawings and I hope you do too,

So what's new I just wrapped on Total Drama Island season 3 last week and have now officially started working on Jimmy Two Shoes which is looking to be a sweet project to pose on and some development work on a new pilot, it's also looking like I'll be illustrating another kids book for this year Penguin books after reading the manuscript I'm really excited about being involved .

Oh The store will be up and running by the end of march finally I.m pretty excited being that the drawings themselves are brand new and my personal favorites

A few months ago,I was asked to participate in a postcard auction benefit in hopes of raising money to help build a school for orphans in Freetown, Sierra Leone(http://btorpostcards.blogspot.com/). I was happy to contribute then it sunk in that the material the artist would be working on was birch wood..which is impossible to print on or at least find a printer who will , so I had to bite the bullet and break out the gouache and do something I haven't done since first year at langara college's fine art's program 1999... paint, in the end I think it turned out o.k. and it was a lot of fun being off the cintiq, so I don't think this will be the end of me painting.

I missed out posting a Christmas drawing last year, so i was wasn't about to miss this year , Happy holidays everyone thanks for the all the great comments and emails this year, it's always greatly appreciated. Some news for the upcoming year there will be a store section opening up on the blog where prints can be purchased, there will a release date for my art book (finally!) , and possible toy announcement (ooooh!).

Monster Deterrent

one night my son was convinced that there were monsters coming in to his room, after a couple of chats that there were "no such thing and he should go to sleep",
I decided to install a Monster security system a plush Triceratops at the foot of his bed, you see monsters are scared of triceratops on account of there pointy horns.... the logic is iron clad.

so finished up at 9nine story entertainment boy time flies, and literally had about two days to rest before starting work at Elliot animation on a very unique project(and very hush hush).I'm also about three weeks away from finishing up my first illustration gig with Simon and Shcuster which has been really great experience and hopefully the first of many with them I hope. So some news finally,I submitted my story test and regrettably was not what they were looking for (next time gadget), the last month I wrapped up designing on "Grossology" season 2 at Pipeline Studios I have to say one of the best gigs I've worked on with some nicest and funniest people I've worked with in a very, very, VERY long time.
I'm boarding from home for the next 6 months or so for 9Ninestory Entertainment a great bunch of people, in addition I've been commissioned to illustrate a children's book that will be out the summer of 2010 ,I can't say much more about the book until it's completed but I'm very excited about it, that's it for now

well... the special announcement will have to wait , a bunch of my pet projects have been put on hold this month, why? gigs over lapped each other (unexpectedly) and I've been on a three week stretch(much to the chagrin of my wife and kid) of designing during the day and boarding in the evening, to top it off I was asked by a major feature studio (deliberately cryptic) to do a test for story.... all of that couple with the madness of the holiday season has delayed a bunch of stuff until the new year.
